Goalkeeping - scoop save technique

The goalkeeper lowers the body behind the ball, brings the hands down early, and scoops the ball securely into the chest. Use this as a main save technique drill for low ball handling.

  • Get the body behind the ball
  • Bend knees instead of folding at the waist
  • Place hands low with little fingers close
  • Scoop the ball cleanly into the chest
  • Keep eyes on the ball until secured

Common mistakes

  • Letting the ball go between the legs
  • Bending only from the back
  • Hands too late to the ground
  • Looking up before securing the ball
